I’ve always been a bit fascinated with aromatherapy. I’ve always been very sensitive to scents, a lover of fragrance, but not a fan at all of synthetic, sweet, or cheap-smelling air fresheners.
The benefits of aromatherapy are fairly well known. Even the Mayo Clinic begrudgingly admits a few study-based perks including:
- relief from anxiety and depression
- improved quality of life, particularly for people with chronic health conditions
and in particular lavender essential oil:
- make needle sticks less painful for people receiving dialysis
- improve sleep for people who are hospitalized
- reduce pain for children undergoing tonsillectomy
But mostly the relaxation perk and it’s ability to positively affect my mood has made me a fan for years. I used to have a large collection of pure essential oils and created my own blends, but then kids came, and you know how it is. I hope to have a big collection again when I’m finally settled somewhere.
There are tons and tons of aromatherapy providers out there, but it is so, so important to choose one that is of excellent quality. I personally do not purchase my oils from some sort of direct-marketing company, no matter how attractive their literature might be. Nor do I ever, ever ingest essential oils. That’s not recommended by any knowledgeable and educated aromatherapist I have ever met. I stick with companies who have a message, who follow generally recognized usage guidelines, and a conscience.
Given all of that, Tazeka is an aromatherapy company I can truly get behind. Not only do they have strict ethics, they do a great job of bringing aromatherapy to the masses without being condescending or making consumers guess. Instead of individual oils, Tazeka blends them for you – in blends that you can actually relate to. I tried Nonstop Thoughts (a light relaxing blend that along with some ambient music and a cup of tea actually did improve my day), PMS Rescue (listen, nothing can rescue me or anyone else in my house from PMS, it’s just not possible. But I was zealous about putting this on several times each day, and I don’t know if it actually did much, but it made me feel better, so it worked), and Confidence (I honestly think it’s that zing of rosemary in this blend that really does make you more aware of your surroundings).
There are many different ways to use aromatherapy, including my favorite diffusion, Tazeka makes these personal blends truly up close and personal with metal rollerball bottles. Roll on your neck, chest, inner elbows, wrists, back of your knees, and even your ankles. The 8 mL bottles go everywhere and are like a little personal genie bottle of zen.
